What is YAEL?

YAEL Women’s Defence Guild is an Australian charity that provides financial assistance and free legal information to people advocating for women’s rights and concerns under Australian law. We make fixed-amount contributions toward legal costs, we don’t fund whole cases.

No. YAEL is strictly non-partisan. Our focus is women’s rights under Australian law, not any party or political cause.

A volunteer board of women committed to the cause, led by our President. We’re a registered charity with the ACNC.

Getting help

Who can apply for help?

People with a legal matter that advances or protects women’s rights under Australian law. If you’re not sure, you’re welcome to inquire.

 

Fixed-amount grants toward legal costs such as advice, expert reports, or court and filing fees. Contributions, not full case funding.

We don’t fund whole cases, we don’t provide or source lawyers, and we don’t give legal advice. We help with costs and provide free legal information.

Start by making an inquiry on our Receive from us page. Within 7 days we’ll email you the full application form and everything you need. Once your documents are in, you’ll receive a decision within 28 days.

About 7 days to receive the application form after your inquiry, and up to 28 days for a decision once your documents are complete.

Yes. Your inquiry is treated in confidence unless you choose to sign a waiver permitting limited public use.

Giving

How can I donate?

You can give monthly (recurring), as a one-off, or periodically whenever you’re able. Visit Give to us to choose an amount.

If you’d like, you can opt in to be named on our donor list when you give, regular supporters are featured at the top. Staying private is the default.

Yes, you’ll receive a receipt by email for every donation.

Yes, you can cancel a recurring gift at any time.

Membership & volunteering

What do members get?

A vote at general meetings, our quarterly newsletter, invitations to events, and the chance to serve on the board.

A volunteer is simply a member who takes on a role, legal research, events, social media, the newsletter, admin and more.
